Affordable Makeup Brands I Love: Makeup Revolution

If you are like me, constantly looking for new makeup to buy, then you will know how it feels to see how expensive some makeup can be. Thankfully, there are makeup brands that are affordable.

A year ago, I found a store called Superdrug very close to my new flat, where I found a number of affordable makeup brands. It was at this store that I discovered Makeup Revolution! Initially, I was a bit hesitant to try Makeup Revolution because the price was so low, I was worried the quality may not be great! It took me two weeks to take a leap of faith and try my first product, which was an eyeshadow palette called “New-Trals VS Neutrals Palette”. I had no idea it would become my favorite eyeshadow palette!

I haven’t tried all of Makeup Revolution products, and there have been a few products that I didn’t really like, but here are some of the products I have tried, and think are worth trying:

1. Makeup Revolution New-Trals VS Neutral Eyeshadow Palette (£6.99)

I can’t tell you how much I love this palette! I bought this palette almost a year ago and I still have a good amount of product left, which is surprising considering I use this palette A LOT! I have other palettes that are more pricey, but I just keep coming back to this one. The palette has 16 colours, starting at a cool tone and going up to a more warm warm tone, from mattes to shimmers.

I’m obsessed with four shades from the top row which are “Vogue”, “Trend”, “New Tral”, and “Tone”. I also love the shade “custom”. It’s not as pigmented as my other four favourite shades, but with some time and patience you can intensify the colour. I find it hard to work with the shade “cool” and “bias” so I often use another palette to for white shadow to highlight the inner corner of my eye or to highlight my brow bone, that said, it’s not impossible to do. It’s still possible to create a simple everyday look using this palette, and also go further and create a more dramatic, smokey eye look with this one palette. Most of the colours in this palette are very pigmented and easy to blend, but I always need more time to blend the shimmer colours. This palette also comes with dual ended eye-shadow brush. I don’t love the brush, but I don’t hate it either, it just takes more time to blend with this brush.

2. Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette (£8.00)

This palette comes with three light colour powders on the top row, three different colours of bronzer on the bottom row, and there are two highlighters at the end of the rows. What I love about this palette is, it gives me options of colours for bronzers, from cool tone brown to warm tone brown. I always find myself using the middle one as it is more cool tone, it gives my skin tone a nice healthy bronze colour. When I want to do a more heavy contour, I always use the middle one first and intensify it with the mixture of the other two bronzer colours. The powders at the top row are nice as finishing powders to set all of my makeup at the very end. I usually mix the first white powder with the yellow powder next to it. The third powder has slight shimmer on it so I barely use it. I’m not a fan of the highlighters, they feel very chalky and powdery and it looks a little bit weird on my cheekbones.

3. Makeup Revolution Blush Palette – Dream Blush (£6.00)

There is no such thing as having too many options for blush. When I first saw this palette, I was over the moon! I use this palette almost every time I put my makeup on, all the colours are very vibrant, and they stay on my cheeks all day!

4. Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter – Golden Lights (£3.00)

This isn’t the most blinding highlighter out there, but you can definitely see the shine! This highlighter has a pretty good pigmentation, so for the price, I’m quite happy with this highlighter, and it was definitely worth it!

5. Makeup Revolution Contour and Highlight stick

Last Christmas, Makeup Revolution had a few gift sets at Superdrugs. There were products in there are just meh, but there was one contour stick with a highlighter on the back. I really like the contour stick, but the highlighter isn’t great. It looks a bit cakey and doesn’t really blend very well on my skin. I have been using this contour stick quiet a lot whenever I do heavy contouring. Makeup Revolution do sell contour sticks individually as well, but I’m not a huge fan of the individual stick, the colour are too orange for my skin. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the contour stick included with the gift set as an individual stick. The fact that I’ve been using the contour part of this stick so much, makes me think that it’s definitely worth buying.

Do you like Makeup Revolution? Are there other affordable makeup brands that I should try? I would love suggestions and I’ll definitely write another review here on my blog. 🙂
